Whether you write romance novels or blogs, you might identify with what a writing slump feels like. And if the voice in your head had its way, you’d retire your word processor. But… what if the voice was not in your head?

Stranger Than Fiction is a couple of years old, but if you missed it and enjoy films about authors, you might appreciate its premise. Without giving too much away, Emma Thompson (Karen Eiffel) is a screenwriter, not a novelist, and the film is more about Harold Crick (Will Ferrell), her script’s main character, than it is about her writer’s block beginning to turn into paralysis.

It’s a quirky edition to a collection of films dealing with the frustration of writer’s block. Stranger’s screenplay was written by Zack Helm, who said he was aiming for sort of an updated Woody Allen feel. I get that, sort of…
