How to write a romance novel in two months
Best selling romance novel authors say that if you’re always thinking you know how to write a romance novel that you’re reading and inventing ways to make it better, it doesn’t always mean there’s something wrong with the one you’re reading. You may just be destined to join ranks with the romance novel writers who have gone on to become best selling romance novel authors!
Your first romance novel: “I always wanted to be a writer”
Think back and recall if you used to write or tell stories as a child. Maybe you still do. Keeping a journal is a sign, and a book of lists–usually of phrases you like or words that evoke powerful feelings.
At times I will hand-copy excerpts into my private journals from classic romance novels just to have the feeling of those passages flowing through my hands!
Do you have several book ideas in mind, or even entire first chapters started? Have you been thinking about sitting down and just doing it? When you do, best selling author Erin McCarthy has some advice for you.
McCarthy is not only one of the best selling romance novel authors of our times, but a prolific writer. Her bibliography lists about 20 contemporary romance books. Her advice in a nutshell? She said the way it gets done is you write 5 days a week, 10 pages a day. So at 50 pages a week, that’s a book in two months.
Once you decide to do that, and after you get it done, you will find that you have a multitude of choices of publishers who accept first time authors submissions. Or if you’re the entrepreneurial type, you can self-publish and self-promote. You can even do what this author teaches about getting your first romance novel to number one on Amazon.
The ambiance around Erin is pure discipline and speaks for itself. But listen to her own words as she talks about her mindset, process and schedule:
